The National Fancy Rat Society (NFRS), founded in 1976, is a British association dedicated to fancy rat, that is to breed rats selected as pets. Among its goals, the association promotes rat as a pet animal and exhibition (also through fairs and competitions) and defines official nomenclatures and aesthetic standards for the various varieties; its official organ is the bimonthly Pro-Rat-A magazine.

The NFRS is the oldest company of this kind, being historically the first dedicated exclusively to rats; Previously, pet rats were, in turn, caring for mice lovers, such as the National Mouse Club ("British Mouse Club"). It has thus become a model inspired by other similar associations in the world, such as the American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association or Australian Rat Fanciers' Association.
