Gregory Maguire


Gregory Maguire (June 9, 1954) is an American writer. He is the writer of the novels Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch in the West, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsist and many other novels for young and old. Many of Maguire's novels for adults are edited stories of classical children's stories, for example, in Wicked he transformed the "Wicked Witch of the West" by L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and his filming in 1939 into the misunderstood main character Elphaba. Wicked turned out to be a successful Broadway musical. One of Maguire's short stories is included in the 2004 collection of Gothic! Ten Orignial Dark Tales.
