Kertaboemi


Adipati Kertaboemi, also written "Kertabumi" was a subordinate Javanese princess. He ruled after 1636 as a lender about Karawang.

The Karawang Kabupas originated when Sultan Agung Prince Kertaboemi in 1636 named Karawang's first adipati. When the VOC and later the Dutch state Mataram began to rule as suzerein, this division of government continued.

Agung's administrative legacy was also the basis for the later colonial rule over Java. In the 17th century, under the Agung the Great, a feudal system was built in which an adipati (like a European duke) ruled an area called cadipates. One of them was Kertaboemi. Also see
