The band was founded in 2002 by Hayden Thorpe and Ben Little. Chris Talbot joined them in 2004. In 2005, they settled in Leeds, and in that same year Tom Fleming joined the band for the first time in the current composition.
As of February 2007, the band is under contract at Domino Records, where they released their debut album Limbo, Panto on June 16, 2008. On August 3, 2009, they released their second album, Two Dancers. Smother, the third album of the band, was released on May 9, 2011.
