Ibelin van line

Barisan of Ibelin (also called Balian the Elder) (died in 1150/1152) was an important person in the crucifixion era in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and was the founder of the house Ibelin.

Barisan must be from Tuscany or Liguria, Italy, from the data of his name. The first entries from him date from 1115, when Barisan Constabel was in Jaffa. Through his merits, he married Helvis van Ramla, a daughter of Ramde Boudewijn I in 1122, and later awarded the castle of Ibelin of Fulk of Jerusalem. Barisan was present at the Nablus Council and also at the Council of Acres, from which the Second Crusade came.

Barisan had five children with Helvis:

Barisan passed away in 1150/1152 and Ibelin was taken over by son Hugo. Helvis then married Manasses of Hierges, constable of Jerusalem. Weapon of the house d'Ibelin Sources
