Transnistria refused to join the independent Moldova in 1992. Thus, a country recognized by no country is still in which Russian troops are still alive.
President Smirnov has set two knight orders.
In Transnistria and Moldova, one followed the Soviet example and the tradition of the star-shaped socialist order. Initially, no European forms were introduced. The members of these orders, each one, two or three degrees, were all designated as "bearer", not as "member" or "knight". In 2005, there was a change in Moldova when the Order of Merit was introduced and President Voronin claimed the decorators as "knights". The order became the first Moldovan order three degrees. The reactionary Transnistria clung to the Soviet Union's presidency and held a weapon in the style of Socialist heraldry and Soviet-style awards. Footnotes
