A Network Operating System, or NOS, is an operating system that includes software for communication between computers within a network. This allows resources, such as files, programs, and printers (to make some examples) to be shared between users.
A NOS uses one or more "file server" machines ( Sun-NFS), accessible from all workstations. Such file servers maintain hierarchical file systems. Workstations can mount these decentralized file systems into their local hierarchies at different mount points, so NOS clients may have different views of the overall file system.
