The Winschoter Courant was a newspaper that appeared until 1992 and was mostly read in the east of the province of Groningen. History

The Winschoter, founded in 1870, was known as a pronounced red newspaper. The newspaper was published by Van der Veen publisher who also published the newspaper De Noord-Ooster (Veendam environment). The publishing house remained independent until the 1970s, after which the Winschoter became part of the Drents-Groningen Pers van Wegener. In 1992 the Winschoter entered the Groninger Dagblad. This newspaper had a joint editing with the Drentse Courant. In 1995, the Drents-Groningse Press was taken over by Hazewinkel Pers from Groningen, the publisher of the News Sheet of the North. In 2002, the three papers appeared last and the Northern Newspaper appeared. This is still the only regional newspaper in Groningen and Drenthe.
