Westerdraai

Westerdraai is a partly pre-war folk district near Oling in Appingedam. The connection to the center of Appingedam is formed by a pull-over bridge over the Nieuwe Diep, which is the successor to the Westerdraaibrug to which the district is mentioned. Description

Most homes were built during the reconstruction of the 50's. The district consists of a few streets and has a strong social character. Westerdraai runs from the Lisstraat in the west via the Derk Boeremastraat to the east, where it borders the Damsterdiep. Along the Damsterdiep runs the Westerkade. Parallel on the Lisstraat runs the former Dijkhuizendwarsstraat, which was renamed Karel Doormanstraat after the Second World War. Karel Doorman was a shout-by-night who passed away in 1942 at the Battle of the Java Sea. Parallel to the Derk Boeremastraat, the Dijkhuizenweg - named after the former castle Dijkhuizen - runs from Westerdraaibrug towards Wirdumerdraai. This is part of the city road dating back to the Middle Ages to Groningen on the south side of Damsterdiep.

There is a Christian primary school in the district. To unlock a neighboring primary school in Oling, two houses in the Derk Boeremastraat (right across the Karel Doormanstraat) had to take place for a bike path and a sidewalk. 53° 19′ 9″ NB, 6° 51′ 13″ OL
