In May 1992, Bharti was secretly married to film producer Sajid Nadiadwala. She assumed the Islamic faith, and also adopted her new (Islamic) name Sana Nadiadwala. Bharti secretly married to prevent family problems, but also because she did not want to end her career in the cinema world.

Although the characters that embodied Bharti did not differ greatly from each other, she was very popular. It was speculated that she would be the new Sridevi - a very successful actress in the 80's and 90s - because Bharti's face features seemed very similar to that of Sridevi.

Bharti died a tragic death when she fell in Mumbai from the window of her apartment on the 5th floor on April 3, 1993. The reason why Bharti has fallen out of the window is unknown. In 1998, the police closed her case and registered as suicide. To date, there is no certainty about Bharti's case. Some speculate that she was sitting in a drunk mood on the window sill and fell out of the window, others said her husband, Nadiadwala, would have to do with it.
