Frederik Lodewijk Rutgers (Breede, November 26, 1836 - Amsterdam, March 19, 1917) was a Dutch reformed theologian and professor of church history and church law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Rutgers graduated from the University of Leiden in 1860 on the dissertation "Disquisitio de fundamento quo Iohanne auctore fidem sibi habendam niti voluerit Christus". From 1879 to 1910 he was professor of church history and church law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Up to four times, he was appointed a rector magnificus of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 1882, 1998, 1894 and 1906 for one year. Publications Externe link
