'S Gravesande Ring

The experiment presented by Jamin and Bouty at the École polytechnique, towards the end of the nineteenth century

The Gravesande ring is a physics and thermodynamics experiment created by Willem's Gravesande in the 18th century. The purpose of this experiment was to illustrate thermal expansion by observing the passage of a metal sphere through a ring.

The device is structured so that the difference between the diameter of the ball and the inner ring of the ring is small enough to allow the ball to pass under normal conditions and the impossibility that this occurs when only the ball is overheated, demonstrating so an increase in volume under the heat effect.
