Paula Fikkert

Johanna Paula Monique Fikkert (Nijverdal, 1965) is professor of language acquisition and phonology at Radboud University Nijmegen.

She studied linguistics and Dutch language and literature at the University of Groningen, but studied at Leiden University.

For her research research, On the development of prosodic structure (1994), she together with Claartje Levelt collected about twenty-one thousand language versions of twelve children aged 1 to 3 years in one year. This extensive corpus (called CLPF) was then one of the largest child language collections in the world.

Paula Fikkert developed her scientific knowledge through, among other things, the research in the so-called Babyta Laboratory of the Nijmeeg Max Planck Institute. The very early language development, the language sounds (the so-called phonological side of language) in very young children have her attention.

She was a number of guest professors (including Germany, Norway and Brazil) and is a member of various scientific associations in the field of language (acquisition).
