Serabend

Serabend is a category of Persian rugs produced in a region west of Malayer, whose main center is Mal-e-Mir.

The weft and the warp are in large cotton; the knot of the Turkish type (Ghiordes) varies from 1000 to 3000 knots per dm.

Traditional decorative motif of the serabend is the boteh miri (Mir's grid), vegetable motif made in various designs and repeated on the bottom mostly red background. Often the edging is very wide made of several frames, up to seven. Among the various formats, the most frequent is the long one.
