Sonseed

The Sonseeds were a Christian pop music band, formed at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Rescue in Brooklyn, New York, in the second half of the 1970s.

The group was formed by Sal Polichetti (bass, voice); his wife Patricia Costagliola (keyboards, voice), Frank Franco (guitar, voice); Kevin McGillen (backup vocals) and Nicky Sciarra (drums).

Their first album, First Fruit, was released in 1983. Polichetti also announced that in the summer of 2009 Sonseed would release a CD with Arena Rock Records, which includes selections from the original first album.

Nicky Sciarra became Head of Community Board 7 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. He died in 1993, apparently stifled by a salted cheese sandwich.

The band came back to the fore in 2008 when a recording of a Jesus Is a Friend of Mine songwriting from a religious TV show appeared on the Dougsploitation blog, and later became a YouTube hit where has generated many parody. Polichetti also performed the song Live at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City on November 14, 2009, with the ska-band swing Tri-State Conspiracy.
