Transect

Urban to rural transect is a model of territorial planning created by neo-urbanist Andrés Duany. The transect describes the succession of zones varying, by density and other characteristics, from the sparse rural farms to the dense urban center. Each area is fractal in the sense that it also contains a similar and escalating transition from its periphery to the center. The transect is an essential part of the movements of new urbanism and smart growth.

Duany's study, the DPZ, embodied the concept of transect in its smartcode planning planning model. This type of planning is considered in contrast to the models of modern functional zoning where large areas are devoted to a single purpose, such as residence, commercial areas, areas dedicated to the tertiary and which can only be accessed and run through large road arteries. In contrast, precisely, what happens in the design according to the concept of transect where it tends to reduce the need for large displacements made by any means. Links externalize the wikitesto
