Airén

The Airén is a white Spanish grape variety, which occurs only in that country. 30% of the total Spanish grape harvest consists of this grape. The main areas are La Mancha and Valdepeñas both lying south of the capital Madrid. Features

The grape is well-resistant to the hot and thirsty climate of central Spain. The stick distances are large, as can be seen on the right photo: the Airén is planted with only 1200 to 1600 sticks per hectare. Logical, because the few rainwater that falls here is insufficient to enable closer planting.

The wine of the Airén is bright yellow, has a high alcohol content and mainly produces easily drinkable and light wines with a floral fragrance. In taste young and green. Aromas of apples, citrus and pear. The finish is never long and not too complex. Synonyms
