Thomas McLeod


Thomas Frank McLeod (Stornoway, August 29, 1869 - Kingston, December 16, 1960) was a Scottish sailor and explorer.

He participated in the Antarctic expeditions called Terra Nova, Endurance and Quest.

Towards the age of fourteen he enlisted at the British merchant marina and joined, as a sailor, the Terra Nova expeditions (commanded by Robert Falcon Scott), Endurance and Quest (commanded by Ernest Shackleton). During the Endurance expedition, following ship shipwreck, he remained on Elephant island with the rest of the crew waiting for Shackleton to return with rescue.

His participation in Terra Nova expeditions and Endurance was awarded with the bronze polar medal. Links externalize the wikitesto
