Leo Joseph Ryan, Jr. (Lincoln, Nebraska), May 5, 1925 - Jonestown (Guyana), November 18, 1978) was an American politician for the Democratic Party.
Ryan was U.S. Representative of California's Eleventh District of Congress from 1973 until the time he was killed in Guyana by members of the People's Temple in Jonestown shortly before they collectively committed suicide. He is the first and only US Congressman to date who was killed during the performance of his job.
In 1962, he was Mayor of South San Francisco.
