Urbanism is the study of cities and their ecological, economic, cultural, social, geographical, and administrative-political impact on the environment. Urbanism is paying close attention to the technical and spatial possibilities of the territory on the one hand, and to the changing social requirements for land use on the other. The 'urbanist', better known as urban architect, is able to relate these two aspects through research or design. In a larger sense, urbanism also includes the study of the interaction between the city and the surrounding landscape.
