Yehiel Rabinowitz

Yehiel Rabinowits

Yehiel Rabinowitz (Ramat Gan, March 1939) is a painter and sculptor. Lifecycle

Rabinowitz settled in Paris, where he studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts from 1960 to 1965. He avoided the usual specialization in one direction, and qualified in various subjects (drawing, painting, lithography and sculpture). At the age of twenty-six, he had his first solo exhibition in the Abel Rambert Gallery in Paris. This was soon followed by exhibitions elsewhere in France, Israel and Norway. Rabinowitz played early with the idea that art should be a part of daily life and accessible to all. After the 1968 student revolutions, time was ready to put this idea into practice and Rabinowitz realized his first major mural in 1971 for the company of the photographer Bernard Goustard. Following in the 70s, 80s and 90s, Rabinowitz made over one hundred large murals, mosaics and floors. These works often cover many square meters and are rarely an integral part of a large construction or building. Unfortunately, a small number of murals have fallen prey to the tooth of time, but a fair number of copies have been retained. After an experimental period, Rabinowitz began to make images of aluminum and stainless steel in the mid 90's. Highlight of this part of his work is "Les Otimistes", a 2007 fade of images in Fougeres. Part of the work for these images has been performed in Maastricht.
