Anthony Ewoud Jan Bertling
Anthonij Ewoud Jan Bertling (Assen, December 13, 1860 - Hilversum, February 2, 1945) was a former tax inspector who became a rather surprising finance minister in the cabinet of Cort van der Linden. It has been suggested that he had become a minister by mistake, but evidence is not available. The only political function he held for that was the councilor in Leeuwarden. Bertling introduced a law in 1913 with Minister Lely, which appointed the Postal Services, Telegraphy and Telephony as State Enterprise. He resigned after a year after the financial problems threatened to grow overhead due to the outbreak of the First World War. His authoritative colleague from the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, Treub, followed him at that time.
