Domains

Under Domains, over the centuries, in general, the property of a top ruler in a particular area is understood. Initially, a country governor, a spokesman or a craftsman, often escalated in the state and later on the national state in emerging state formation.

The term is usually used in plural and is derived from the Latin word dominium, which means dominion, but also property. The derivative term domanial comes back in terms such as 'domanial dunes' and domanial mine. The exploitation of smaller, private domains is called the domain system or court system.

Domain management was often assigned by stewards to stewards. From the French era, the management of the domains was in fact a state affair.

The domains of the State of the Netherlands have been managed by the Ministry of Finance since the 19th century, which was subsequently known as Directorate of Domain, Domain Services, Real Estate Domains, and since 2009 Rijksvastgoed- en Ontwikkelingsbedrijf (RVOB). In 2014, this has, in turn, taken place in the real estate company. The implementation was assigned to regional units (inspections) where officials worked over time with the name of the agent, receiver, inspector and steward. The domains of the king are called Kroondomein and were managed by individual stewards.

The size of state domains could be expanded by land reclamation and polishing. Some larger examples of this are the Wieringermeer and Noordoostpolder, where the domain management had an important share in the earliest development.
