Hugo Weckx


Hugo Weckx (Vilvoorde, January 9, 1935) is a Belgian former politician for the CD & amp; V. Lifecycle

As a doctor in law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Weckx worked as a lawyer in Brussels in 1958. In addition, he was chairman of the Dutch Commission of Brussels Culture from 1972 to 1988.

In 1964, he was elected for the CVP as municipal councilor of Saint Agatha-Berchem, where he was ships from 1970 to 1988. From 1966 to 1968 he was also a provincial councilor of Brabant.

In 1977, Weckx was elected to the Brussels Chamber of Representatives in the Chamber of Representatives and remained in office until 1981. He then served in the Belgian Senate from 1981 to 1987: from 1981 to 1985 as a directly elected senator for the Brussels district and from 1985 to 1987 as provincial senator. He then resigned in the Chamber from 1987 to 1995. Through the existing double mandate, he automatically moved from 1977 to 1980 in the Cultural Council for the Dutch Cultural Community and from 1980 to 1985 and from 1987 to 1995 in the Flemish Council. From 1994 to 1996 he was also a member of the Committee of the Regions.

He was also minister of the Flemish Executive from 1988 to 1995. From February to October 1988 he was in charge of Education and Brussels Affairs from 1988 to 1992 for Public Health and Brussels Affairs and from 1992 to 1995 for Culture and Brussels Affairs.

Weckx became the first Flemish minister in the Geens III government in 1988 and gained his 60th out of active politics (1995). He was primarily responsible for Culture and Brussels Affairs.

In 1995 he left active politics. From 1999 he was president of the Flemish Cultural Center De Brakke Grond in Amsterdam.
