Ipriflavone is a chemical compound, belonging to the phenol class.
This is a synthetic isoflavone that can be used to inhibit bone resorption, maintain bone density and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is not used to treat osteoporosis. It slows down the action of osteoclasts (bone demineralization cells), possibly allowing osteoblasts (bone building cells) to build bone mass.
A clinical study reported in 2001 reported that it was not effective in preventing or treating osteoporosis.
