Jacques Monsaert

Jacques Monsaert (St. Amandsberg, 9th September 1934 - Ghent, July 28, 2002) was a Belgian lawyer and mayor of St. Amandsberg (1971-1976) for the CVP. After the merger with Ghent, he became first city-development and public works (1977-1982) for the CVP and then mayor (1983-1988) in a coalition CVP-PVV. Following the municipal elections in 1988, the CVP was referred to the opposition and became Monsaert peacekeeper of the canton Wetteren-Zele (1992-1999).

The personal archives of Jacques Monsaert are managed by the Documentation Center for Regional History. Maurits Gysseling in Sint-Amandsberg. In response to Heritage Day 2008, this documentation center organized the exhibition "Mayor Monsaert and the turn to contemporary urban planning in Ghent". This exhibition took place from 13 to 29 April 2008 in the church of the Grand Beguinage in Sint-Amandsberg.
