Jacques Van Gingelen


Jacques Van Gingelen (Borgerhout (Antwerp), July 24, 1810 - Borgerhout, 1864) was a Belgian painter. biography

He was a pupil of his townmember Joseph Moerenhout between 1827 and 1831. He completed himself with the Parisian painter Eugène Lepoittevin. Van Gingelen was, in turn, a teacher of the romantic marine painter Egide Linnig (1821-1860), Hendrik Verbeeck, Louis De Winter and Alexander Schaepkens. Van Gingelen painted marines, shipwrecks, beaches with characters, frozen rivers with skates, animal terrains (cattle and horses) and romantic river landscapes. He traveled in the Netherlands, Great Britain, France (eg Normandy), Ireland and the German states. From the town of Geisenheim am Rhein there is a watercolor of his hand. His characters are often stuck in the 15th and 16th century clothing. Van Gingelen also made etching and lithos.

He lived Jesus' street 1166 in Antwerp (until 1848) and from 1849 on the 18th Bishop's street in the district of Sint-Willibrords. He would have lived in Vlissingen for a while. Exhibitions
