Nelson (river)

The Nelson is a river in the Canadian province of Manitoba.

As the outflow of the Great Winnipeg Lake to the mouth of the Hudson Bay near the ghost town of Port Nelson, the length of the river is 664 kilometers. However, from the farest source, the full length of the river is 2,575 kilometers long. For this the river (and the lake) is fed by the Red River of the North and the Saskatchewan. The river basin of the Nelson is thus 892,300 km wide.

The river was named by the explorer Thomas Button after seaman Robert Nelson, who died at that location. 56 ° 18 'NB, 95 ° 46' WL
