Smidsschorrepolder

The Smidsschorrepolder is a polder southeast of Sluiskil, belonging to the Polders in the waterways to Axel and Ghent.

The polder was established in 1825. At that time the Zijkanaal C was dug, in order to make the canal from Axel to the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal possible, and to the south of it 233 ha was reclaimed. However, a drainage channel was left open to the Zwartenhoek sea lock. This channel was also dammed in 1845, where the Emmapolder was created. 51° 15′ 32″ NB, 3° 51′ 38″ OL
