The Latin phrase Quis fuit horrendos primus here protulit enses? (read: "Who Was the First to Invent Orginal Weapons?") is the incipit of Tibullo's elephant.

In the composition, Tibullo exalts frugal and agreste life past, which did not need wars and weapons, but introduced by the subsequent greed and the continued cupidia (what Virgil calls sacred fames).
