Health Center (Stadskanaal)

The former health center of Stadskanaal on the Drouwenerstraat

Stadskanaal's former health center was housed at the Drouwenerstraat in Stadskanaal and was abolished in 1975. History of the building

During the Second World War, the Stadskanaalster manufacturer Georgius Adrianus Wilbrink established a liquor store in the building on the Drouwenerstraat. The building was located behind the monumental villa of the wooded summer Somer. He made some kind of surrogate rump and sold it under the name of rumpunex, giving him the nickname Sjors Rumpunex in the area. He made a furore and knew to wear his product by export to Germany. He used his contacts with the SD. In the building on the Drouwenerstraat he regularly organized parties and drinking layers for his German friends.

After the Second World War, the building served as a health center. Before the City Canal had a hospital, specialists like a pediatrician, a pulmonologist, an ophthalmologist and a rheumatologist could attend a consultation here. Also, the local association The Green Cross held consultancy agencies for infants and toddlers and the neighborhood nursing department of this association was housed here.

After the arrival of the regional Refaja Hospital in 1968 and the new health center, Dr. Mantinghcentrum, the building was commissioned by the municipality of Stadskanaal, which housed some municipal departments and projects in the building. In 1975 the building was broken down to create space for the expansion of the tennis courts in Stadskanaal. 52° 59′ 21″ NB, 6° 56′ 46″ OL
