Hua'er

Hua'er is a musical tradition and is practiced by nine different ethnic groups in Gansu, Qinghai and other areas in northwest China.

The texts are improvised, but there are some rules. For example, the verses consist of three, four, five or six lines of each seven syllables. The people are about love, hard work in the countryside or the pleasure of singing. Texts are also included on recent events in the country.

Since 2009, Hua'er is listed on the List of Masterpieces of Human and Oral Human Rights.
