Oberscharführer

Oberscharführer in de Waffen-SS (Kurt Sametreiter)

SS-Oberscharführer was a paramilitary grade established by the National Socialist German Labor Party, which existed between 1932 and 1945. Initially, an Oberscharführer was a sub-officer within the Sturmabteilung (SA), which stood between the Scharführer and the Truppführer. A rank within the Schutzstaffel (SS) was then still equal to a grade within the SA. In 1934 the Night of the Long Knives took place, after which the role of SS-Oberscharführer was equal to that of Truppführer within the SA.

An SS-Oberscharführer could be part of the Allgemeine SS or the Waffen SS. Depending on this, he could have different responsibilities.

The SS-Oberscharführer was a rank equivalent to a Feldwebel in the ordinary national force (Lord).
