Francisco de Sande

Francisco de Sande (Cáceres, about 1540 - September 12, 1602) was a Spanish colonial rule and from 1575 to 1580 the third governor general of the Philippines.

The Sande was for his appointment as Governor General of the Philippines member of the Audiencia of Mexico. After his departure on April 6, 1575 with a Manillagalion from Acapulco he arrived in Manila on August 25, 1575, where he immediately followed Guido de Lavezaris.

During his period of governor an expedition was sent to Camarines. The newly built city Nueva Caceres (nowadays Naga City) was named after its birthplace. De Sande also organized an expedition to Borneo. The Sande also had the plan to conquer China for Spain, but he was commanded by the Spanish King Philip II to restrict his activities to the Spanish property in the Philippines.

During the period of De Sande, the first franciscan missionaries in the Philippines arrive in 1577.

The Sande was succeeded by Gonzalo Ronquillo on June 1, 1580. After his governorship, De Sande became auditor of Mexico's audiencia.
