Mastoïdectomie

A mastoidectomy is an operation on the mastoides procession, this is the nipple protruding behind the ear. The mastoides procession is part of the sternum, this is the bone on the side of the skull, and consists of numerous air-filled cavities interconnected via bony channels. The air-filled cavities stand through a tubular passage called the anthrum tympanic, in connection with the middle ear cavity. As a result, infections of the middle ear can spread to the mastoides process. An infection of the mastoid processus is called a mastoiditis. In the case of a mastoidectomy, the infected air cells with the bone tissue are removed from the processus mastoides around it. Literatuurverwijzingen
