The Marlboro Music School and Festival is a retreat for advanced musicians for the purpose of deepening and training for seven weeks held in Marlboro (Vermont) (United States) every summer. Public performances are given each weekend during school hours, the program being announced only one week or so in advance, chosen from the sixty to eighty works that are being reviewed. History
The school was founded in 1951 by Rudolf Serkin, Adolf Busch, Marcel Moyse, Louis Moyse and Blanche Moyse at the place of a former dairy farm that had just become the Marlboro College campus. Due to the small scale and rural environment, Marlboro Music was considered a retreat where young musicians could work together with and learn from celebrated musicians in an environment far from the pressure of daily performance or recording. Prominent musicians associated with Marlboro were among others Pablo Casals, Siegfried Palm, James Levine, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Jonathan Biss, Gilbert Kalish and members of the Guarneri Quartet. The Marlboro Music School and Festival is currently led by artistic leaders Richard Goode and Mitsuko Uchida. During the rest of the year, Musicians From Marlboro runs national tour program with many concerts a year in cities in the United States. Externe link
