The normal tram line from Egmond aan Zee via Egmond aan den Hoef to Alkmaar was opened on 21 July 1905. It was owned by the Steam Tram Society 'Egmond - Alkmaar - Bergen' until 1 January 1918 and was operated by the HSM, which initially operated this line as a continuous steam train line.
The tram station in Alkmaar was located on the station square until 1913. Then the steam trolleys had their stop on a separate tramperron at the back of the station. With the commissioning of the new tram station, the initially used steam tram vehicles on the line to Egmond were replaced by locomotives and continued the ongoing service Egmond - Bergen. The tram station in Egmond was situated in the Voorstraat near the Prince Hendrik Foundation, slightly east of the current bus station. The station building still exists and is currently being restored. The line to Egmond was lifted in 1934, the line to Bergen aan Zee remained for a further twenty-one years.
