Cormac Glossary


The Glossary of Cormac (also Sanas Chormaic) contains the etymologies and explanations of over 1400 Irish words. It was made by Cormac mac Cuilennáin (836-908), king and bishop of Munster. it is an encyclopedic dictionary that contains simple explanations (with synonyms) in Irish or Latin of Irish words. In some cases it tries to give an etymological explanation of the words and in other cases it focuses on encyclopaedia. It is considered the first language dictionary of post-class Europe.
