Jan Drummen to a portrait of Franz Heffels, Aachen (D)

Jan Drummen (Nuth, March 18, 1891 - 7 November 1966) was a Dutch architect. Drums have become known through the design of the Lauradorp district in Ubach over Worms. Jan Drummen can be combined with Ir. Jan Beersma van Laura & amp; Vereeniging, counting as the most important designers of the Lauradorp mining village. Drummen studied at the text schools of Heerlen and Roermond. From 1918 to 1920 he was the architect of the municipality of Nuth. From 1920 to 1942 he was the municipal researcher of Brunssum and then director of municipal work. In 1950, he established himself as an independent architect. Around 1955 he formed with Ir. J.H.L. Theunissen, as well as Drummen living in Brunssum, the architectural agency Drummen-Theunissen. Their desk, at which time at least six artists were employed, was located at the Kruisbergstraat 33 in Brunssum. Drummen was a versatile architect. In 1917, he designed the, nowadays, the government-designated, doctor-practice house called Antigone in Nuth, in a traditional eclecticism-style style. In addition to housing, he has also designed shopping centers, churches, schools and one or more monasteries, either alone or with company Theunissen. In 1952 he built the Parish Church of Immaculate Heart of Maria (Fatima Church) in Brunssum and in 1957 the H. Pastor of Arskerk in Eygelshoven, now demolished. In 1953 he built an emergency church in Treebeek for the Rosary parish. There are also various schools in the name of his office: Brunssum and Hoensbroek craft schools, the expansion and new building of the Savoy Savoy Nissau in the 1955s and 1960s, as well as the gymnasium next to the Lauradorp OLD school in 1956. Probably Drummen was also the architect of a primary school in Brunssum-Rumpen, already in the twenties. In Werkhoven he built a monastery for the Sisters Augustinessen. He also seems to have built churches in Germany, but he says he used a hiding name because he was an official of Brunssum Municipality and could not afford anything. Sources
