Mohammed Farrah Aidid

Mohammed Farrah Aidid or Aydid (Somali: Maxamed Faarax Caydiid) (Belet Huen, December 15, 1934 - Mogadishu, August 2, 1996) was a Somali politician and leader of the Haban Gidr clan. This clan hampered international food aid in Somalia in the early 1990s. They argued against the presence of United Nations and United States troops in the country. Aidid was one of the main goals of Operation Restore Hope, the V.N. and the United States military action. Thus, they tried to offer humanitarian aid and break the military siege in Somalia. He died of a heart attack on August 2, 1996.
