Nicky van 't Riet

Nicolet Gertrud (Nicky) van 't Riet (Hilversum, July 23, 1948) is a Dutch orthopedagogist and politician on behalf of D66.

Van 't Riet studied orthopedagogics at the University of Utrecht. After that she worked as a researcher for several years, before joining the COSBO (Central Organization Cooperative Elderly Unions). In 1987 she was elected as a member of the City Council of Utrecht. In 1990 she became an elder of culture, media policy, monuments, organization and emancipation. At the end of 1991 she had to step up after a motion of distrust was accepted because Van 't Riet resisted the construction of an underground carriageway.

In 1994 she was elected member of the Lower House. In her first period, she was spokesman for traffic and water management. In her second period, she had defense (material) and housing and spatial planning in portfolio. In 2002, she won in vain against Dutch participation in the development phase of the Joint Strike Fighter.
