Norm (Social Sciences)

A standard is a translation of the underlying values of a group or society into concrete behavioral rules and regulations. This may be laid down in, for example, rules of law, but it may also be unwritten rules. Consequently, norms also send social action, because people often unknowingly adapt their behavior to the norms of the situation and the social roles they personalize. These social roles often belong to scripts.

Standards vary between societies, but also in between, for example, social classes. Deviant behavior, failure to comply with certain standards, can affect social status and accept and even lead to exclusion. Literature
