Piero de Ponte


Piero de Ponte (Asti, August 26, 1462 - Birgu, November 18, 1535) was from 1534 until his death, a year later, the 45th grandmother of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. He followed Philippe Villiers de l'Isle Adam in 1534.

During his reign, he supported Emperor Karel V in his war against the city of Tunis. He also went out against the Sicilian traders on the island when there was a food shortage. Piero de Ponte died on November 18, 1535 and was succeeded by Didier de Tholon Saint-Jaille. The Ponte was first buried in Fort St. Angelo, but was later buried in St. John's Cathedral. Sources
