Dirk Pieters


Dirk Pieters (Brakel, 31 December 1954) is a Belgian politician for CD & V. Since 1995 he is Mayor of Halle City. He used to be a public representative. Lifecycle

Dirk Pieters obtained a licentiate degree in Economics at the Catholic University of Leuven in 1977. Afterwards, he also obtained a Master's degree in Economics (1978) at the UCL and a Master of Arts in Economics (1979) at the University of Sussex in Great Britain.

He started his career as assistant professor Mark Eyskens at the Catholic University of Leuven. Afterwards, he worked as an economical expert at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, with the National Bank of Belgium and at the Planning Bureau. Pieters also taught at the VLEKHO and at the EHSAL.

In 1989 he became the first ship of the city of Halle, responsible for public works, spatial planning, patrimony, agriculture, environment and information (1989-1994). Since 1995 he is Mayor of Halle.

From 1995 to 2003, he was a People Representative in the House of Representatives for the CVP / CD & V. Externe link
