Giovan Francesco Gaggini was born in Bissone in 1683, by Giovanni Giacomo Gaggini and Cecilia Garovi.

From a young age, most classical masters, such as Giulio Quaglio. He stayed in Genoa, where he painted the frescoes of the vault of the chapel of the Crucifix in the basilica of Santa Maria delle Vigne: in these scenes there is a close proximity to the work of Quaglio, especially in the massive draperies and in the heavily dotted faces. p>

Afterwards, Gaggini moved to Piedmont, working mainly in Cuneo: the first works that are recognized in Cuneo are the frescoes of the dome, the vault and the walls of the choir of the church of Santa Croce. He spent a short time in Salorino, the current Canton of Ticino, and then again in Savigliano, again in the province of Cuneo.
