Ramón Cáceres

Ramón Cáceres

Ramón Arturo Cáceres Vasquez (Moca, 15 December 1866 - Santo Domingo, 19 November 1911) was the 31st President of the Dominican Republic (1906-1911). It was assumed that Cáceres, who served as vice president under Carlos Felipe Morales, would become the next president in 1906. Cáceres was ambushed by rebels in 1911 and murdered in his car.

Cáceres was the leader of the Los Coludos, also known as the Red Party. His death was followed by general riots and strikes and, ultimately, by the American occupation of the Dominican Republic in 1916.
