Richel Apinsa


Richel Apinsa (circa 1962) is a Surinamese politician.

She graduated from the Anton de Kom University University, whereafter she worked in the Department of Central Budget Accounting at the Department of Finance in February 1991. In July 1996, she became a legal assistant at the Department of Transport, Communications and Tourism (TCT), Department of Air Transport, and in mid-June 1999 she transferred to the Ministry of Justice and Police, where she first worked on the Legal Advisory Department and later on the Department of Legislation.

In May 2007, Apinsa became minister of TCT following Alice Amafo (ABOP) who had resigned two months earlier after reporting that she had spent over 10,000 euros on tax on her 30th anniversary in January, , food and decoration. Shortly after that, Adolfina Cairo, life partner of Ronnie Brunswijk, was pushed forward by the ABOP as a successor. This proposal led to a conflict with the BEP, one of the other parties within the A Combination, after which Cairo resigned. Eventually, Apinsa chose to belong to the ABOP like Amafo. With her swearing, the number of women in the third cabinet Venetian returned to three.
