Trailwalker

The Trailwalker is a worldwide walking event organized annually in ten countries on three continents. In addition to Hong Kong, New Zealand, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Japan, Belgium and the Netherlands, France and Germany first took part in 2010. Description

The first Trailwalker took place in Hong Kong in 1981, as a training for the Gurkhab Warad connection troops, a part of the British army. After the Gurkha's station in 1997 in Great Britain, Oxfam-Hong Kong took over the organization of the trip. The Gurka's organized the Trailwalker in Britain from that year.

During the last weekend of August 2008, the first Trailwalker in Belgium was organized in the High Fines with start and arrival in Eupen. The participants leave a distance of 100 km in teams of four people in 30 hours. The teams are sponsoring this for the benefit of Oxfam solidarity. The 2010 edition will take place on 28 and 29 August.

In 2009 Oxfam Novib introduced the Trailwalker in the Netherlands. The edition of 2010 took place on 5 and 6 June, again in the Veluwe Nature Park in the municipality of Ede. The goal was education for 30,000 children in, among others, Uganda. There were 118 teams, the proceeds were € 487774, -

Due to a decrease in the number of teams and the high costs, it is decided to stop the Trailwalker in the Netherlands after three editions.
