Amchoor

Amchoor is a spice that originates from Southeast Asia and is widely used in Indian cuisine. This spice is a powder made of dried green mangos (Mangifera indica). The word Am is Hindi for mango. Use

Amchoor has a honey-like aroma with a lemon-like taste. It is used in samosa's, stews, pickles and stir-fry dishes, both with vegetables and with meat. It has a grinding effect in meat dishes. The powder is used to obtain a fruity flavor without adding moisture, or as a sour cream maker.

The spice goes well with other spices, especially chilli, coriander and ginger. It can be found in the Indian spice mixture garam masala.
