Erik Gnupsson

Eiríkr Gnúpsson (in Danish Erik Gnupsson) (XI century - XII century) was an Icelandic Catholic bishop, lived between the end of the XI and the beginning of the twelfth century.

He was the first bishop of Greenland and Vinland, nominated by Pope Paschal II in 1112, and is therefore considered to be the first Catholic bishop of America four centuries before Christopher Columbus's journey.

He had placed his bishop's seat in Garðar. Notemodify wikitesto Bibliografiamodifica wikitesto
